The Eagle’s Nest Bar & Grill is located on historic grounds. Starting in the late 1800s, anxious city dwellers from Ohio and Kentucky boarded the Cincinnati Northern train to escape oppressive summer heat and humidity. Lured by cool breezes and sparkling spring fed waters, they came to relax at one of Michigan’s finest destinations—Clark Lake.
Once arriving at the west end train depot, travelers were met by a steamboat that would transport them to where they would vacation. A sought-after port of call was Eagle Point.
Over the years, the Point has been home to two hotels, several restaurants, and a pavilion.
The pavilion was a venue for the big bands in the 1940s and pop groups in the early days of rock and roll. The building also performed service as a roller skating rink, bowling alley, summer playhouse, and boat repair facility. Outer buildings served as bathhouses to change up for a swim.
Take a walk around Eagle Point, and listen. You may hear the echoes from decades of visitors. Listen carefully enough, and you may hear a story of romance, or the wonders of family togetherness, or loving connections with lifelong friends.
